Who's familiar with the newer Hiaces and 2JZ engines?

so whos familiar with the newer Hiaces and 2JZ? Of particular interest is the amount of space where the engine sits.

Considering mating the two together once I save enough pennies.

what kind of gearboxes do these vans run, and can you get aftermarket lsd's for the diff?

there was a 1jzgte hiace on TM a couple months back, so can fit.
they run G series from memory, more or less tha same as a W series.
shim up the factory lsd, not ideal but will hook 2 wheels all day

if they are still g series diff, can fit a irs (jza70 etc) trd diff or other aftermarket in there, with some small mods. the trd G code lsd for live axle was discontinued ages ago.
or theres a guy in hamilton that mods std hilux/hiace G codes into a proper ramp type lsd

Yea i had that 1jz one on my watchlist, but im interested in fitting it into the newest shape ones. logic would say that it should fit since the engines havent changed too much between the versions.

I dont have much experiences with Hiace vans, only mitsi L300's. but how much room is there from the crank pully to the radiator or what ever sits in front of the engine? is there enough space for 2 more cylinders? or would everything need to be shifted back?

i would say keeping the box where it is would be the easiest solution since it saves making up new linkages for the shifter and mounts.

Latest Hiace still uses same family of diff as the old ones. However I think there are some changes but I can't say how or if that would alter fitting of other diffs previously used in conversions
