4afe to BT 4age ae101

Postby magweal » Tue May 24, 2011 9:32 pm

So here it is I have a ae101 Corolla hatch(NZ new) which had a 4afe in it, I bought a Carina GT as a donor and have dropped the BT into it and have swapped most of the dash and body harness' but am now getting paranoid that I should have used the ae101 engine loom that I have(I think it ae101) and tried to use the Corolla's wiring or should I keep swapping over the body harness.

Any help would be great, I am determined to do it myself as I'm on a VERY tight budget

Read touge101's build thread, he did a similar conversion
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

oh hai brad. :D

you'll find that carina blacktop loom is a bit different as to the body loom plugs than a levin/trueno/carib. TBH you can splice them together but i relied on a friend who is a genius to help me rewire it. you will be better off finding a silvertop loom then adding/modifying wires for map sensor instead of maf. it has been done before by a few guys on here there was a thread not long ago which was along the same lines as yours here where it was explained.

we did it the hard way by rewiring the fusebox, adding starter relay and 3-4 extra wires around the engine bay as well as the dash stuff to get everything working.
with a silvertop loom all the body loom plugs are in the same places so makes it much easier.

really depends how far you have got so far and if what you have been doing has been working. if not i'd say this would be worth a go. if you need pics/help with anything PM me and i'll see what i can muster from my limited wiring memories of what we actually did and why. LOL.

so all the dash plugs will plug into the ST loom, is it the same as the BT as I think I have 1, I'm not sure if its silver or black top or even if its at or mtwill the ecu still work with the ST. All I've dove so far is remove the dash take out the wiring including around the front of the car and replace it with the carina stuff.

I really like the induction system you made

silvertop loom will plug into those 4 plugs down by the ecu that connects the body loom to the engine loom.

as i understand it, you just swap over the silvertop ecu plugs to the blacktop ones and add in any wires that are missing for MAP sensor.

Cheers man.

only guess i would have is there would be an extra plug for a maf sensor over by the airbox area. and also there has got a plug at the top right of the engine bay that connects the ignition signal to the starter relay.

Square grey box with two wires? It is a capacitor, and it is needed, although it will run without it.
