reading plugs

Postby Psych0-hAmst3r » Mon Jul 11, 2011 10:09 am

Anybody here a wiz at reading plugs??

Basically I have a 2zzge setup but I never got the stock platic intake with it so I just used a 3in steel pipe. Turns out the factory intake is 2.5in and most aftermarket pipes are 2.75in. Apparently its really common to get bogging and CEL codes when running aftermarket intake pipes. I dont bog or get codes so curious why it seems happy.

My plugs look like this but I dont really know how to tell from a plug. Sorry photos arn't awesome, from my phone camera.

Think it would be worth going down to NZEFI or somewhere and getting somebody to test A/F ratio?

Ash, normal - impurities in fuel, oil and air.

black = rich, brown/grey optimal, white = lean

the number of threads that the heat extends up the plug gives you a more accurate indication of fuel ratio but i cant remember how that goes

but the leaner it is the hotter it is so the heat will travel further up the plug these is a number of threads that is best but i cant remember exactly
girl: can I trust you?
me: you can trust anything :D
