Caldina Electrical Failure

Postby naqs » Mon Aug 15, 2011 12:34 pm

I was driving my Caldina (ST215) down the highway last night and all of a sudden the ABS/VSC lights came on.

Then I noticed the rear window wiper was going even tho it wasn't on at the stick.

A bit further down the road the indicators stopped working

then I noticed the park lights weren't working and when I got home I discovered none of the back lights are working.

Also there was a bit of a funny smell inside the car.

Then this morning I went to have a look at it and it struggled to start.

Once it had started It wouldn't let me change out of park without pushing the red button.

Can anyone help? or got an ideas on what it could be?

Help is greatly appreciated!

Are you sure it is not a VW?
have you fitted a stereo, turbo timer, boost controller etc. recently?
have had any work done around gearbox/air filter area?

Sounds like you got shorts in wiring, or something else funny, is it charging?

I haven't done anything on it. I had an alarm professionally installed 3-4 months ago and haven't ever had any problems with it

I thought something must have shorted but no idea what it could be that would cause so much chaos

Check the battery terminals, make sure they are tight and clean.
How does it crank?

Towed a traiker lately?

Usually not coming out of park is a blown stop light fuse.

Other problems cound like low voltage at a guess,
which could be alternator.

Does the alternator light work properly?
Does it come on before you start the car and then go off?

The car starts fine and runs fine. It just won't unlock out of Park.

The alternator appears to be charging just fine, the light comes on before you start it

I also discovered that all the rear brake light bulbs have blown. So I'm guessing something must have shorted.

Might have to get a sparky to come have a look at it.

you need to find and check the stop light fuse.
