1S/2S Engine Guru?

Postby AE86less » Tue Aug 30, 2011 6:31 pm

I've got a few questions to ask people who know about these engines. I'm having a lot of trouble finding any info non 3S related.

My goal is to have a 2S engine running in my SA60, preferably with EFI. I'm looking at these things as the 1S-U in the car is not particularly healthy and I was looking at giving it a freshen up, but decided to try and get a 2S-U. I would be happy to simply have a healthy 2S-U then try and work out how to convert it to 2S-E.

Questions are:

1. Are 1/2S engines as easily converted from fwd to rwd as, say, a 4AGE? I.e. bolt on the appropriate parts and go?

2. Are 1S manifolds etc able to be transfered to 2S engines (and vice versa)?

3. Am I wasting my time? Would I be better to splash out the coin on a factory RWD 3SFE from a SG40/50? I also kind of like the 1/2S for originality. I don't particularly want a 3SGE.

Yeah, townace noah = SG40 :) I've called two wreckers and both quoted me $2000 for engine, loom and ecu. That's just a wee bit more than I'd like to spend tbh.

I want a bit of towing power etc, not to pull cars or anything, but fairly loaded trailers and that. A bit of passing power would be nice too.
