Sounds the same as Supra headlights, I've done it, file off a groove and it works fine.

Yup, do that. There is a Phillips bulb that works, not many places carry it though

The JZX90 is the same, had to buy a 9005 and a 9006 to get even close to something that would work, then clip off half the lugs to get it to fit into the housing...
ps. light bulb codes may or may not be correct because I'm not a parts geek with a head full of numbers

I have a feeling it was due to the soarer being designed in the US.

Dunno, since the originals are 9005J's, but yeah, everyone just seems to trim tabs to fit replacements
