Impreza fuel usage.

Postby Mr Revhead » Thu Jan 05, 2012 7:42 pm

A mate is considering changing her 1500cc Civic to a 1800 4wd auto Impreza.
Does anyone have any first hand experience in exact fuel usage figures?
She wants a bigger car, and an auto but is worried about increasing fuel costs.

Horrid.

Edit: And even 2WD 1.8 Legacies are average too
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Better off with a turbo model - at least you get decent performance for the criminal fuel usage

What kind of mate would let another mate buy something like that? I'm guessing budget determines they can't get a wagon like yours?

Budget and fear of a "big" car

The very first thing I said when asked was "Corolla"
When she mentioned Impreza I suggested 2wd manual 1800 but noooooo

Out of the Suby range, a 2wd one of those would be ok, other than the usual starter and alternator etc faults all suby's have. A 4wd one, if your worried about fuel consumption, wouldnt really bother. Being auto AND 4wd is just going to slow it down badly, slower it is, the more you put your foot down. They like to flood themselves pretty bad too.

I did a manual conversion on my wifes EE90, basically halved the fuel consumption. Small motors and auto's dont really mix. Couldnt imagine if it was 4wd.

I know of a diesel auto caldina tho

Try asking on subclub forum, What I remember the N/a versions had about the same fuel uneconomy as the turboed models - add an auto and it got worse.

Quoted figures show them in the 9l/100km range. Same as the twin turbo Legacies and the WRX. I believe it tbh. My ex had one and it was cheaper for me to drive my S14 from my house in Papakura to hers in Pukekohe and then up to Auckland CBD and back after work than it was for her to take her 1996 Impreza auto POS there and back

my 101 BZT wagon just returned 13.5km/l yesterday (best economy on the BZT wagon was 15km/l)

You do know that the throttle is variabe and not a 2 postion switch don't you? :P

I'm going to try the Corolla suggestion again. The 7ish my AE111 gets is much more appealing

I've yet to see a 4age that isn't off / foot flat.

I managed 12km+/L over the last tank of open road though. Half my driving daily is with the car warming up so economy is never going to be great.

I can get to 100k using partial throttle without taking months to get there. Maybe 6speed finally has a benefit.... Even despite the constant shifting required

When me and NILPSI took my rolla up to the naki pre mega meet weekend I did about 8L / 100k. Using passing lanes etc

Wasn't being fully serious :P Can get to 100k in 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th. No 6th here though. I remember driving Scotts BZR(or G) that was 6 speed and was forever changing gears lol. But yeah on the open road they are quite economical even when overtaking a lot and fully loaded.

Revy, I'm pretty sure I know a person with a NA 4WD subi. Will check with them what theirs is like on gas
