Basic newcomer RS200 3SGE advice?

Postby Dopamean » Thu Mar 01, 2012 1:39 am

Hello,

I'm looking to move to an RS200 and just wanted some basic advice.

1> What oil is recommended for this engine.
2> Gear box fluid also for the six speed manual?

Doing some research it seems again best to stay with the factory intake and even with the factory panel filter staying away from oil based filters.

3> Can anyone advise of a proven formula for an exhaust system on this engine? Any good experiances locally in Auckland?

Apologies if this has been covered but I did search :)

After a bit more searchng but not early morning eyes

Oil 5 - 40, Motul for gearbox.

Would appreciate headers / exhaust suggestion of what has worked though.
Just read titties thread, looks promising.

Use the oil that Toyota specify to use, google has all the answers.

Ensure you use the correct type of GB oil E.G GL4 or GL5

Factory airbox is hands down better than an exposed pod filter, if you want to you can replace the panel filter with a TRD or K&N etc, just dont over oil it.

Well... my mate puts down 220kw with an rs200z with a 3" titanium exhaust

So I'll say 3" is proven!

Wow, adding only a 3" exhaust nets that much of a gain? Amazing...

You can always tell the rookies, it's the titanium that does it.

according to all information i can find and experiance in the past i would say that a 3" exhaust on a nearly standard 2.0 n/a is a complete waste of time. I would be thinking more along the lines of a 2.25" to 2.5" exhaust depending on a few things.
when i fitted a 2.25 to my silvertop i found that i lost a little bit of torque but gained alot of top end. Your muffler is also going to make a huge difference as well.

Theres a few guys on here which will have more experience with altezza exhausts than me. Also, googles your friend.

Best mod is to get rid of the dual mass flywheel, something I will be doing in the near future

I havent seen any conclusive gains from different manifolds or sections of exhauast.

My car with similarish motor has Altezza HKS copy extractors, 2.5" exhaust to a resonator, then back to standard Altezza rear muffler.

Keeping the car not sounding like complete shit is more important than gaining 3 horsepower at the cost of 50 extra decibels while cruising. (In my opinion, at least)

Haha... I'm not that gullible, I knows how to use this google machine
The reason I ask is because as usual theres allot of conflicting information out there...

Thanks roman, waiting for my request over at tezza club to be accepted :D
Yeah I also have the 3000-2700rpm rumble.

Will look to book the car in at NST for gearbox oil change (driveway in aucks is imaculate) and also ask for the diff oil to be changed.
Will have a couple of other things checked by NST also.

Toyota told me to use the wrong fluid (2 parts depts even) so definitely do your research. Hypoid, LSD, 4wd will all make a difference so do some research, work out what you can yourself & have Toyota, or a local specialist confirm.
