Removing interior = legal?

Postby cat007 » Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:07 pm

How much can you rip out of the interior before you start to run into legal issues? You have to leave the door cards in I believe?
But you can remove the carpets?
Can you remove the rear seats?
What about things like plastic boot lining?

pretty sure its along the lines of, if you can flail your arms about in the seat and hit something that will tear a hole in you, it needs covering.

Reason for rejection, interior impact
1. Where an interior fitting, control or surface has been
added, removed, substituted or has deteriorated,
the likelihood of injury to occupants has not been
minimised.

And I guess that's why you have to have foam stuff around roll cages?

I suppose, really, there's bugger all reason to remove the interior like the carpets and such for the sake of a few kg's. Even if I save 10kg - that's only 1/6th of a tank of petrol....

Yup, because head or wrist or ankle + unpadded metal bar = owies.

I've actually put the carpets back into my race car, makes it look 1000 times tidier inside and weighs 3/8ths of sfa.

Yeah fair call. I don't think I'll bother removing interior. It just won't be worth the effort and time. And for the amount of weight saved - vs how loud it would be without carpets etc when driving around the street.... not worth it I guess

Cheers

no carpet is really annoying in the rain too - you get in with wet feet, and suddenly your heels are slipping all over the place trying to change gears etc.

ps what happened to your cute girls flashing their boobs thread?

Agreed, I keep my carpets in as it keeps the car looking tidy, and as mentioned, weighs a few kgs at best.

Removing carpet IMHO is only for 100% competition cars, for a multitude of reasons.

Keep your interior and make more power. No interior in road cars just looks shit.
