P/S Bleed air out.

Postby neo » Thu Dec 20, 2012 2:38 pm

Does anyone know how to bleed air out of a AE101 / Corolla power steering rack.

I had to remove the rack to make modifications to the rack ends awhile ago and now (after re-attaching all the lines + filling with new fluid) when the wheels are turned the pump makes a racket.

Thanks in advance.

Too much reading there, simple way thats never failed me is to lift the wheels off the ground, fill the reservoir with fluid, start engine for 2 seconds and switch off, refill reservoir, repeat untill fluid level stays at the same level. Start engine again and turn the wheels from lock to lock (with wheels in the air remember), do this untill the pump is quiet. Set the wheels on the ground again and continue to turn from lock to lock, by this time it should be pretty much bled up, if it doesnt work try going for a drive for a while, still noisey you probably need to replace the pump. But in saying that, Ive seen some pumps take a lot of abuse and still last.
Hi Im Ben, Have a nice day :)
