Gearbox Oil

Postby CAMB01 » Wed Jan 30, 2013 9:35 am

Hi all,
Just want to get some ideas of what gear oil to use in a close ratio fwd gearbox wth a mechanical LSD?
Vehicle is used for racing, hillclimbs, street sprints and track work.
This is for Chelles' mirage.

My suggestion is to ring, or email Redline, explain your set up to them, and get the info straight from the horses mouth.

Far more reliable that the typical "run what I do as its the best" comments you get on forums.

GL mate :)

P.S Perhaps pop over to BITOG to canvas some opinions too, as there is no shortage of valuable info on that site

Email maker/agent for LSD. Ask what the requirements/recommendations are.
Email maker/agent for close ratio gearset. Ask what the requirements/recommendations are.

Find something that meets both their requirements. Use it.

1st option is easy, I believe its a cusco 1.5 way LSD.
2nd option is going to be very hard. Its the gearbox that was in the car when it came from Japan.
Gearset was 1st - 4th with a stock 5th. Chelles had a 5th gear made to match the set.

Been rebuilt twice now, as it has a habit of eating synchros when racing. last rebuild the gearset was transferred into another case as it was believed the case was worn and causing the failures.

Redline all the way, do some research and get the correct one.

Since the synchros are presumably OEM mitsi parts, ask the crowd on the mitsi forums that run the same gearbox what they run, and how that works for them.
