Can I cut this?

Postby Stott69 » Sun Mar 10, 2013 6:11 pm

Will load up a pic when I get home but the front reo bar behind the bumper, can I cut or modify it without legal issue? Also thhe horizontal panel under the air box?

The ali bar, want to cut the bottom and back out infront of the intercooler. Then weld in plates to change it to triangular

If its the bumper reinforcement bar then no, legally it is part of frontal impact requirements. Realistically if its tidy then you'll never get picked up on it.
Need pics to be sure though, and especially about the panel under the airbox. Have seen cars fail wofs for holes cut in that area for intercooler pipes

Think you can cut or modify them but air bag system needs to be removed

My Altezza failed certification as I modified that to fit intercooler. Basically as said cant be cut, modified or removed however he did say as of 01/01/2013 if you remove the air bags then yes it can be modified.

I should have checked this before putting the Turbo A front vent on my bumper (requires cutting a hole into the steel of the bumper)

I was most likely going to box up the insides with steel to hopefully get a but of strength back.

So without Air Bags, modifying the bumper is ok? 8O

No I replaced it with a unmodified one. Had to have and wasn't allowed to remove it either. Couldn't be cut, modified or removed unless air bags removed after 01/01/2013 as stated. That's what I was told so I just replaced it, had front mount removed all together as it couldn't be fitted without modifying it and I got the cert and let the new owner decide if he wants to refit it
