max E series gbox torque?

just thinking a bit left field here for a project i'm involved in..

what are the power/torque limits an E series box will handle??

or for that matter what other transverse box would handle big HP and torque?? SW20 turbo run an E series box don't they??

what experiences have people had with big power - I'm thinking 5-600hp and HUGE torque.. needs to handle endurance racing as well not just occasional street blat or drag race.

You won't break an E153 (SW Turbo). 800hp drag cars have tried. Shafts snap before the gearbox is even bothered. Syncros on the later model (1993/1994+) box are better but either way you should be rebuilding it if it's destined for abuse. Intergrated oil cooler is handy too.

What is "huge" torque?

oh yes that might work actually. what size are their axles??

not quite sure what numbers it will come out as but it will be going behind a 2.5L 5cyl turbo... main criteria is there needs to be plate type LSD's available for it as its guna cost mega dollars to find a plate type LSD for a volvo gearbox and an Xtrac is $20K..

I think the TRD LSDs are discontinued, but Cusco, KAAZ etc still do them

Can't remember axle sizes/sold mine but you can get aftermarket bigger axles from memory. I want to say Shep trans in the states do them but I could be thinking of Evo stuff. Been a while since I did anything MR2 related. They are decent sized axles anyway. Not much point replacing them under 400kw. Plate LSD'S are plentiful. Kaaz, Quaife, TRD all make them.

Quaife are torsen diffs, they dont do plate diffs that i'm aware of.

You'll kill synchros, and noisy bearings aren't uncommon, but never heard of anyone stripping the gears on one of these.

Never heard of anyone managed to strip the teeth on any of the gears due to big power, the CV gives up first before anything, and these are on big HP drag cars on slicks.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

With upgraded CV's you won't break em. ATS Racing and CRW make them.

Slicks are more forgiving than drag radials too btw since they flex off the line, taking the strain. The real problem is the walk you get when you are pulling 120mph on cross plys and skinnies.
