Beams Altezza High RPM Rattle

Postby stoffa » Sun Apr 14, 2013 8:35 am

I've recently bought a 3SGE Altezza and noticed at around 7000rpm engine gets a bit of a rattle going on, it sounds to me like its valve/head related.

Has anyone come across this? I've given the engine a flush and good 5w30 oil, it didn't change the noise at all but did make it run noticebly better.

Do people actually check valve clearances or do they not really change over time?

I bought the car off my brother in law and its been pretty well looked after, serviced every 5000kms since 60,000kms and its now done 135,000kms.

could be heat sheild rattle or the shims need doing and last thing check water pump and alternator .as noise can come from there and 1 more thing also the mechanical vvti mechanism can make noise as well

it doesn't sound like altenator or power steering pump, it comes on at the same point everytime. I just bought a translated engine service manual so maybe I'll just check the valve clearances as a starting point.

when you say the vvti mechanism makes noise, do you mean during normal operation or sometimes they get noisey when theres something not working correctly?

sorry I've come from Subaru ownership and just starting to learn how everything works in these cars.

p.s please dont sell me a quad throttle adaptor, im not modifing this car hahaha
