Sump Baffle tray does the engine need it?

Postby softlad » Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:13 pm

Is the sump baffle tray absolutely necessary in a 4AGE silvertop.
It just seems such a mission to remove the sump, having to remove the 4 10mm oil pickup pipe fixings, because the baffle tray is glued to the sump with gasket goo.
I order to make life easier if I need to remove the sump again and don't want go through the contortionist impression trying to remove the oil pickup can the baffle be left out.
Is there an engine destroying reason for it to remain

Yes. It helps keep the oil down where the pump is, and also stops it splashing against the crank which does bad things. Leave it on there.
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

If you plan to put the car on the track etc then yeah it's ideal over wise the oil moves too much in corners and drags the oil away from the pickup. Thus damaging the oil pump etc.
