Turbo rebuilding

Postby blackmk3 » Tue Jul 09, 2013 10:02 pm

So ive got the turbo off my car currently, Its a bit of a hybrid thing

Its got a turbonetics front cover with a 60-trim intake wheel, with a T04 exhaust wheel (specs are from what ive been told anyway) and runs a stock CT26 Exhaust housing to bolt to the stock manifold

its always worked without a problem, i brought it second hand of a guy who had it built up running in a 7mgte powered jet boat

Now im building a new steam pipe manifold to fit up to it as i was having boost issues with the internal wastegate. but a there's a few chips on the intake wheel and i slightly very slightly maybe 2mm on the tip, bent two of the exhaust turbines fins when taking the housing off the turbo

Shall i get it rebuilt? guessing it would need two new wheels, plus seals etc and wheres a reliable place?

Or just wait for it to die one day and do it then

Thanks
Nick

If I had my time again I wouldnt have bothered with the an upgraded CT26, just put the money towards a GTX3582 and live with better spool and better power.

Rebuilds get expensive when they have to do more than just bearings and seal.

Yes,

I spent more than enough on the Hybrid T28 that we used to have,
every time we had it touched it was an arm and a leg,

Knowing what I know now I would have bought a new 'off the shelf spec' turbo each time instead.

Hmmm the only thing ct26 about it is the exhaust housing flange, the housing itself is a turbonetics cast item

lucky i made the manifold to accommodate a different flange and turbo in future
