voltage regulator?

Postby blindnz » Sun Sep 15, 2013 10:56 am

The girlfriends Mazda has been blowing bulbs. So I measured the voltage across the terminal 17v. 17v across the battery as well.

What's the deal with the alternators voltage reg do these blow often? Has recently been in an accident, would this attribute to it?

Is that 17v with the car running, because if it isn't I would try a new meter.

Yeah running. By terminal I meant the bulb socket. Battery is at 12,6v when the cars off

Voltage regulators can just up and die, age is a factor too,

Get it replaced ASAP as you will keep blowing bulbs and cook the battery to death if you keep running it like that

if you MUST keep driving it in that state, drive around with the headlights on dip, and run other electrical items if you can, the extra draw can help keep the voltage down and minimize any further damage

What model Mazda?

Newer ones the Voltage regulator is part of the engine ECU,
and there is juts a transistor in the alt.

Have had to do both at work, some need the alt part replaced and some needed a s/h engine ECU.
