Fix my car plz?

Postby iOnic » Thu Nov 21, 2013 3:05 pm

FWD experts read on....

Trying to work out how to make my daily drive straight on boost. Was kinda manageable but it's just been retuned and is kinda all over the place now. Front end lifts up and wheelspins/torque steers wildly from about 2500rpm and it's getting a bit old. It has bugger all power compared to some here so keen to hear what you guys have done to make the car drivable.

What sorta stuff can you do to suspension things to make it not lift the front as much? It's basically stock with junk king springs which probably aren't helping.

Thanks heaps.

I hear the rear engine mount is the cause of excessive torque steer. You can get inserts to prevent it.

You could increase caster to decrease lift....

Looks like I'm replacing the rear mount. It's not torn yet but it's crazy how much movement there is just with a bar on it

Hopefully that cures that problem. Scary when you go to enter the freeway and it takes off in whichever direction it wants as soon as boost comes on.

Do they make a antilift/caster kit?

Sell it and buy something that drives the proper wheels?

But didn't these cars have some kind of tech in the diff and drive shafts to reduce torque steer? Or was that just the Fords?
Could be something wrong there?

The BL limits power in 1st and 2nd, and if the steering wheel is over a certain angle. From memory the rear mount is a common fault on the BK.

Wait, so it was fast, and manageable torque steer wise, so you

Now you're wondering why this has happened?

Parents just got rid of theirs, a lot of fun even in stock form. A handful when pushing it. Surely you knew it would get worse if you asked for more torques lol.

Got some sticky tyres on it?

Yeah it's got decent tyres. Reflash was to fix drivability/economy problems in the old tune and do an E85/98 tune.

Looks like anti lift kits are available so I'll look into that.
Rear mount may have been fine on stock power but not now.
Also noticed on the drive to work this morning turning stability control off makes it more controllable when it lets go. Doesn't have the sensation of power alternating between the left and right wheel.
