DIY air jack?

Postby cat007 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:22 am

Has anyone ever thought of making an air jack out of something like this:

Not sure how much pressure they need, but I bet it wouldn't be hard to use a dive bottle and regulator. Quick and easy and portable solution to jack your car up at the track?

Airbags would require guidance, and travel limiting. Also need to make sure there is no way they can extend while on track. Hitting a ripple strip and having an airjack drop and dig in would be seriously not good.

I meant something like this:

Not sure if that is using an old air bag, or if it's a specific type of bag....

But buying an air bag to make something like the above trademe link would be a cheap alternative?

Same problem as other pneumatic jacks. They don't fit under anything worth having on a track.

Just set off airbags and get faster at swapping wheels before it hits the ground.

I can't see it being worth the hassle though really.

I like the idea of these, I would feel a lot safer working under the car, but I guess it depends if you need a rapid pit stop or not.
