Sunroof operation - 1998 Caldina GT, ST215

Postby Tintop » Mon Dec 14, 2015 1:58 pm

Well - I have the headlining out and the sunroof glass panel removed.

Operating the slide open/slide close switch causes a click from the control unit relay(s) and the drive motor struggles a few turns in either direction, but there is no further movement.

Operating the tilt up/close down switch does nothing at all. The switch contacts themselves test ok, but there is no activity in the control unit.

I intend to investigate the mechanicals a bit further, everything seems covered with a sticky grease, it may be the reason for the failure to work properly. When I first purchased the car about 4 years ago, the sunroof operation was very sluggish, and not till very recently have I tried it again.

But the control unit ??? - Should there be a 'click' from either ( or both) of the relays in the control unit when trying the tilt open/tilt close switch ??

Units are same as in this photo:

Thanks.

Have you tried sliding the sunroof with the motor removed?, sometimes the tracks can get gunked up with dust causing too much friction.I have repaired many sunroofs, often its dirty tracks, a good clean up and new grease does wonders, but sometimes the motor can be tired /burnt out.while you have the headliner out, check that all the drain tubes are not blocked(can be common and causes leaking sunroof)
