Rear Brake Caliper Bolt Size

Hi Chaps,

Quick question. My Blade just failed the WOF because the rear caliper is loose. I asked the guy why and he just said tighten the bolts....

I've since discovered one of the caliper bolts is missing... I'm thinking I'll just grab a stainless bolt in work and stick that in is there any reason to go to Toyota and fork out for the real McCoy? I guess if they have it in stock I'll do that.
Can anyone tell me what size the bolt is? I'd no equipment to measure the other one tonight and the missus needs the car for work tomorrow.

Stainless steel probably isn't too good. I'd get an OEM bolt as you don't to screw with your brakes. They will be less then $5 and you should still be able to get one as they are used on many cars. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/xref?s=900 ... J=on&mG=on

Use this one too to cross reference part numbers with diagrams. Toyodiy did have diagrams but they were removed.

As above, go OEM man. The shear/tensile strength of stainless is far lower than that of high tensile steel, plus being a lot harder it also tends to fracture rather than stretch under load. Especially when you aren't sure what grade stainless you've got as the quality and strength can vary quite a bit.

Just off the phone with every Toyota garage in Auckland. They don't carry them in stock and they'd have to order them in - 3 to 4 weeks..... Called a toyota breaker on the shore and they wont sell me the bolts unless i buy the whole caliper. Might have to be amayama!

pick a part or zebra are your friends for this , just take one of the other bolts and get one the same

The cross reference seems to suggest that bolt is only used on cars after 2006, is there a way to find out if there is a different older part number for it? The pick a part type places never carry anything that new. I'd prefer not to have to go unbolting calipers for the weekend in the rain if i can avoid it.

I'd say you'd probably find the exact bolt on something older, not much has changed with caliper design. Even an older HT steel bolt would be better than a new SS one, it would certainly do until your new replacement arrived. It's just rain! It won't take long to remove a few wheels and check for your bolt.
