Rebuild front AE111 calipers

Postby wlglevin » Sun Jul 03, 2016 8:33 pm

Hi All,
While replacing my rotors and pads today I noticed that the piston seal on one of my front calipers are broken apart and perishing.

As I don't have compressed air to rebuild it myself, can anyone suggest a shop in Wellington who can do this for me of somewhere where I can buy rebuilt calipers?

Car is a 95 AE111 Levin McPherson Strut.

Cheers

Single piston or twin piston? You could try take the caliper down to any garage and they could pop out the piston(s) for a small fee. Once it's out using the rebuild kit makes it easy. Just make sure the piston surface isn't pitted so when you put it back together it won't leak.

Good suggestion thanks. Single piston. I use the car in 2kcup racing, so may be worth replacing the piston anyway?

It could be if it's damaged beyond use. They don't always get pitted and can be fixed up. Brake fluid likes to absorb water and a damaged dust boot can let in water and dirt.
Some race brakes don't even have dust boots but they require a ton of maintenance.
I'm not a brake expert so can't really comment on exactly what to do.

Just pop it out using the brake circuit?
Or grease gun, bit of tidy up after but it's not the worst job I've ever done.
