LED brake light replacement

Postby steroidcontaskie » Thu Oct 19, 2017 8:30 pm

Hi All,

The crown athlete (GRS184) failed its WOF due to a non-functional brake light (in the actual taillights, not a LED strip light that some cars have). The mechanic went to change the bulb, but it appears to be a whole LED unit that needs replacing and the that he was unable to find a part for it.

Has anyone had experience with a failed LED brake light? If so, were you able to get it fixed / find a replacement part or did you have to get a whole light unit?

I'm going to pull it part this weekend and try some gypsy magic on it.

Cheers
Edward

I have fixed a few led stop lights in the past. It depends on how well glued together they are. If you can get it apart then you can buy a pack of leds for a few dollars and solder the replacements in. I found that the failure of the leds in my cases were caused by alternator problems giving too much voltage and cooking them.
"You can't do it like that!." "Why not?"
