Headdeck

Postby Guido » Thu Jun 30, 2005 7:26 pm

I just purchased a Pioneer DEH3750MP headunit.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auct ... d=29401092

I just have had some problems installing it. See the cables in the car and the plugs in the back are different. Some people say I should get a converter plug or something, others say I should get it done proffessionally. How much would i cost proffessionally, how much does a converter plug cost and what does it look like?

Thanks

$30 from supercheep for a convertor plug, not being mean but if you dont even know what a convertor plug is maybe you should look at geting a pro to instal it. I think its about $70 :)

if it has the loom on the back of the headunit, just cut the plug off inside the car and crimp some bullet connectors on and plug in play like that, there will be 3 main wires - red, yellow and black

red - acc
yellow - constant power
black = earth
and then its just a matter of finding which ones your speakers are, which should be dirt easy.

Wow thanks for all the replies people :D Youre a lot more helpful then any other forums id ask.

Bad news, however. I just found out the 3 year warranty only counts if it is installed by a pro, and its probably worth spending however much it costs to keep the warranty.

Are there any cheaper places then $70? Sounds a bit steep for a 15min job..

15 mins is a f..ing ruff job most installers use solder to connect their wires(most good installers)and take an average 30 mins to do a good job bullet terminals create a connection spot where you can lose power (but not much) and also you can have problems with them if not done properly so ask around and make sure its done with solder or the unniversal pioneer to toyota plugs you are talking about

please explain why???
as it connects two wires together just as if they were new

so if you were to install an alarm you wouldnt solder on the wires

every speaker, radio, headunit and whatever else electrical (inc foggies and larger current draw-ers) ive ALWAYS used the strip and crimp method, never ever soldering.

and ive never encounted a problem.

soldering just makes it harder, messier, and something else to go wrong (like me burning myself)

Yeh, me not using them and all.

the answer?

well mine would be, its easier to remove speakers from a car you may be selling, same with headunit too, and well, anything electrical you may want to remove again.

remind me again, why arnt ecu's solded into the wiring?

why do they make removeable plugs?

same reason. so things are REMOVEABLE.

Well, you seem to be the annoying person, that causes me to cut all the wires when im changing my headunit!

id rather just pull the plugs out, crimp new plugs to the headunit, and plug and go!
