whining sound

Yes, i know what you are all about to say, but ive tried it may times.
I have my amp under the passenger seat. two sets of rcas, from the head unit, run up under the glove box and down the passenger side and then under the seat. my power runs from the battery, across the engine bay (from bottom right to top left infront of driver) then behind the pedals, behind the head unit and down the middle to then go under the passenger seat. the only time the rcas are close to the power is when the power runs behind the head unit.
what i want to know is, if i buy one of thoes little box things from ripco, could this POSSIBLY solve my problem? (i.e do they actually even work/worth trying).
The whinging is only noticable when i have my lights on aswell.

May not be the alternator, although it is a possibility. There has been a large amount of us on NZIce with these whine problems lately, and a lot of the time, the problems were different. I went a good month or so believing mine was the alternator, but swapped out the headunit for another one on the weekend (well, DeeCee did :)) and the whine disappeared. Problem found.

Read Abmolechs novel on NZiceMag (no, really 8O) on causes of whine and how to eliminate it. Make sure you have a decent amount of spare time though ...

Good luck dude, you'll need it .

thanks a lot, i had seen that article before, but being lazy, i like to take the easiest way out of a situation.
and i wrote the novel so people dont ask such questions like "are your rca's next to the power" etc...
thanks for the help.

So has anyone actually tried one of these 'noise filters'??

we had a car in today and it had a massive whine through the stereo. turned out the amp was causing it by creating interferance on the RCA's

try earthing out the amp better, the stereo better and also try earthing the case of any amps out to the chassis..

my 2c anyway

Yeah this was the prob with my car. Did 5 compleat installs. Could not work it out. Took it to Stereo company and they had the car for 3 days. Turns out the RCA inputs on the amp had borken of the board in the amp. changed the amp sweet not a prob. But that was a constent prob even when the car was not on. All good now. Yay for good sound :D

ok, i went to jaycar to get some rca type "sound whinging quietners" but they had sold out, so i went for the biggest shiniest one there which was just under $40 8O , all you do is put it on your battery then onto the power wirer going to the amp, it did quieten down the whining, but it is still there , but on the plus side, i can have my gain for the speakers past 20%, so all wasn't lost. but still pissed off it didn't fix it. also tried re grounding the head unit to somewhere else, also tried re grounding the amp (even grounded it to the negative terminal on the battery, still made the sound).
so i guess it must be the 3 inches in which the power touches the rca's at the amp :?

I bet it will be your amp. If you have a mate who has an amp put in in your car you will know straigh away if it is or not.

Go to repco and ask for a Fusion GL-01 "high quality ground loop isolator" it goes before amp inline with the RCAs. Got rid of 99% of my alt whine. They don't carry it in stock but can order, only about $30 I think.

I had an annoying whinging coming from the back of my car for ages...

Now I let her sit in the front seat and the whinging has subsided a bit.
