Sony headunit will not play cdr. Help

Postby boyracer69 » Thu Jun 01, 2006 11:27 pm

Hey people. I just bought a run about car which came with a sony cdx-L490 headunit. It didnt play cds at all so took it in to get fixed (broken runners) and they tested and said it works. Installed it back in and it will play non burnt cds but all my cds are burnt and it will not play them. It comes up with error4. I have never owned sony headunits before, stick to pioneer gear in my other car so have no idea what the issue is. What does error4 mean? - i dont have a manual. Im sure this should play them?

Cheers :?

nah it says cdr/rw on the front of the thing. The burnt cds are not mp3 format as my other cd h/u is not mp3. :?

I had this error when i had my stock headunit in my curren. Wasnt sony and funny enough it said error 4. I put it down to a) a RW cd and b) the files on the RW were formatted WMA's. Try using Nero or something to burn your music instead of Windows media player if thats what your doing.

Try burning your CDs at a slower speed. I knew someone that had a Sony CD player (not car) that wouldn't play CDs if they were burnt to fast, this would be either the CDs were shite cheap ones or the CD burner was a shite cheap one.

try burning at a slower speed (try as slow as possible initially)

also try doing a disc to disc copy of a non-burnt cd (hopefully your supporting at least some of the artists you enjoy!?!?) again at a slower speed and if this doesnt work I guess you'll be looking for a new head unit...
