Speaker Crap out

Postby slighty_looney » Mon Aug 07, 2006 5:07 pm

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can help me with somethink

I was driving along the other day listen to my music on fairly loud volume when my back two speakers seemed to die, so i put the fader onto the rear and sure enough they have, but the funny thing is the tweeters are still working fine and putting out sound but the main speakers arnt, this has happend on both at the same time, there like 6"9s. the actuall name is "Carrozzeria Air-link type 3-way" sorta like standard 6"9s, i know there not the best speakers but just wondering why this has happend, all the wiring was done by redfox and it runs of a sony xplode head unit 55w x 4, which was also insalled by redfox, Has my speakers given up on me or is there a simple soluition or reason to why this has happend, thanks for the help

so youve got sperate tweeters for the speakers? if so check the cross overs to see if a wire has fallen out, check h/u or amp (whichever they are connected up to).

Or better still if u have had them recently installed take them back

nah tweeters are inside the speakers, like there 1 unit, hooked a old speaker up to the wires and it worked fine, must have $&#$% the speakers but i find it strange that both back speakers went out at the same time and the tweeters still work tho :?

Too much distortion will kill the woofer of the speaker, but wont damage the tweeters.
Mostly on older speakers that is, as it can make the surround crumble.

^^ What he said, and tweeters generally have a high pass filter before the signal gets to them so you don't run as great a risk of over-extending the cones like with the woofers.
