Going by power output etc, what size cables to battery suit different amp applications?

Installing a couple of amps with a friend in the weekend and want to make sure we do it the best way.

Also Amp to Sub and Amp to crossovers as well if there are any preferences beyond the usual average speaker wire.

Alpine PDX 4.100 powering Alpine SPX 177R and Alpine SPR17C
Alpine MRD 605 powering Type R 12"


I know for the MRD605 I should be using 4G as I have used this Amp before but for a different application. And it has been a while since I have messed around.

What I am not sure about is:

MRD 605 cable size to Type R 12" Sub

PDX 4.100 to battery cable size (presumed same as other amp, but would possibley go to 2G?)

And PDX 4.100 to the components listed above.

How long does the cable need to be?

I'd say a run of 4ga or 2ga into a distribution block and short runs of 4ga to the amps would be sufficient, or a run of 4ga to each amp from the battery if you feel like a bit of overkill

12ga is a good size for speaker cable to the sub, and 14 is good for components.

There's a good table on http://www.bcae1.com/ under the "wire" tab that gives you a power rating for each size cable over a 15ft cable length.

At the end of the day, the bigger the cable, the better lol
