Basic alarm upgrades

Postby samlloyd » Wed Jan 29, 2014 8:18 pm

Bottom of the line uniden alarm, model I think is 255xr.
Where would you find accessories for these such as glass break sensor? Im sure a uniden one would be easiest, but I'm guessing any 12v glass break sensor would work? (Rotorua)
If I used another brand, would the minimal current draw of a sensor be enough to trigger the alarms 'current sensing' feature.
If other brand sensors are not easy to connect, I can make then switch any old light which would trigger the alarm anyway.

Cheers

Anyway, Installed alarm.

Few queries. I am trying to get the alarm to activate upon install by reaching in the window and turning on dome light. I thought the 'current sensing' would make alarm sound but it didn't.

Same with opening a door, didn't activate alarm.

Help?

Sussed it, just wasn't waiting long enough between arming and practice triggering alarm.

I would have loved to have posted something, but electronics is beyond me in this sort of situation. Posting anyway so you're not just talking to yourself

You can use any of the AVS alarm accessories if you were wanting to add to the Uniden although it would have been more cost effective and reliable to just start with an AVS alarm :)
