NZSA Installer standards!

Postby Obsessive » Tue Mar 01, 2011 10:03 pm

I'm trying to improve the existing standards for alarm installers, as it stands they are nothing short of pathetic. It's something I am passionate about and I firmly believe that we all deserve better then the set up that we currently have.

Please spare 5 minutes to read this: http://vehiclesecurity.co.nz/blog/email ... f-the-nzsa

 Not only are the standards pathetic, "qualified" installers aren't audited and most don't meet the standards anyway, I just hope the benefits of being a NZSA member have improved in the past years.

Best of luck

Thanks,

The only reason I am a member is to protect my customers in the event of an insurance claim.

That and the fact that I'll never be able to make any changes form the outside.

Standards definitely need to improve, insurance won't let me install an alarm myself but are happy for me to pay some retard who can't read the alarm instructions, leaves out the over ride switch because "you don't need that" (even though it is the only way to change any of the settings) and then I find later they never even hooked up a bonnet switch even though it has a separate wire to the alarm. 5 star approved install my $&#$% arse.

Sadly you are spot on, there are plenty of D.I.Y. installs that are better then some of the so call pro installs

Thanks Matt,

It's good to know that it's not just me who is frustrated with some of the installation standards.

Although some of the dodgy install comes from the customer who are now in the habit of expecting a $50-100 install.

Always used to be satisfying to see them come back after having an install done elsewhere for it to be fixed...

To true, The whole trade me mentality does not help either. I will only install systems that I supply.

The whole Idea of Insurance approved alarms being sold without installation in places like Repco is a joke. So much for the likes of Mongoose etc supporting dealers!

Not really, the idiots who look to make $5.00 profit on trade me are probably the main culprits for this. It was interesting that the RRP did not go up with the GST increase last year. Says it all really!

Can't say I touch Mongoose myself as the product restricts how good the install can be. Anyone can do quick, cheap and crap installs.
I prefer to sell with Cobra and Autowatch and go hard on the install.

Wow 2.5 hours for an install, I must be slow! I spent 8+ hours fitting a system into a MR2 today.

He has passed the NZSA test so can provide you with a complementary sheet of toilet paper!

I've just posted the following question for him!

"For maximum security immobiliser cuts (where possible) are made so the car cannot be started unless it is disarmed via the remote." What's with the "Where possible" thing. Do you really think you can do a quality install in only 2.5 hours?

If he's uncomfortable with the question he'll probably do the usual thing, either not reply or blacklist you.

The "where possible" may be about the fuel immobiliser not being able to be installed on mechanical fuel pumps like on k series motors.

I wouldn't have a clue as i don't know much about alarms.

I am after a dynatron for my IST, but good auto-electricians stopped doing alarms due to it takes them too long vs mobile installers. I would install it myself but I need it to be "certified" for insurance.

Now, if I am ever get my shit together I will be an ass and stay and monitor the installation guy as I cannot see how you can manage to install properly a 5 star alarm in 2-3hours.

There is just too much BS in the industry.

[off topic]That be a business opportunity for you Sergei? Do the easy exam and then do alarm installs? You already know electronics, so could be a way to earn some $$ on the side. Get your name out there as someone that does installs to a good standard etc[/off topic]

There is BS in every industry.

Good to see someone willing to make the effort to improve it Obsessive, good luck with it!
