I need a good amp

Postby darkmyst » Wed Dec 21, 2005 8:41 am

Going to Parallel imports today :)

I have a Soundstream 300W RMS 600W MAX Xstream sub

heard they were pretty good.

Looking for a 2 channel 300-400 W amp, My Budget is $300. and I'm planning to buy a box today from PI and a wiring kit.

I want to run two 6.5's and my sub, thats all...

I need some recommendations.

I had a few amps planned so far.

If you want to just amp your sub then the pioneer would be the best out of those 3 imo.

The other alpines (both 4ch) you could run you 6.5"s and then bridge the other two to run the sub but I don't think it will be enough power for it, and you could risk ruining your sub by underpowering it.

edit - i just saw that one of the alpines has a sub ch as well, but not sure if that alone will be enough power to run your sub either.

The pioneers a monoblock so it will only power your sub.
Honestly id look for a decent 2nd hand amp, theres not much to go wrong with them, and for $300 you can pick up a decent brandname amp, with twice the power of those alpines.

can put you in contact with someone for cheap new fusion amps if you want?
my mate has a 1404 and it goes hard.

1404's are cheap and good.

Two 1002's in one 8)

Bridge one side to make 400W RMS
Leave the other two seperate to have about 100W RMS per channel

Problem solved :D

Oh and if anyone thinks fusion is crap, I know a hard out audiophile who replaced a caliber CA475+ with a FP1404 and thought the fusion was better

some fusion is crap  but then they make up for it by having some really good stuff for quite low prices

as your sub is single voice coil, if you are only wanting to power the sub then only get a 2 channel amp and bridge it to 4 ohm... however if you want to amp your sub AND your fronts then get a 4 channel, bridge 2 to the sub and use the other 2 on your fronts which will make the system have a bit better quality in the sound not just doof doof

Yea the Fusion 1404 would be a pretty good sub for what you want, being 4x140Wrms you can have 2 channels bridged to run the sub and the other 2 channels to run your fronts with a good amount of head room, not to mention they are dirt cheap due to the new fusion gear comming out some time in february i am told
