Old School Security.....

Postby TruenoBZG » Mon Aug 07, 2006 9:32 pm

Hello

I have a 1988 Toyota Carina. Very nice car, still in awesome condition and great for the odd little skid (rwd is fun)

However I would like to now install lots of car audio goodies in this little hummer, only problem is its insured for only $1500 (cost me $1000 he he) and if she got stolen, my life would be very dismal.

What sort of security could I look at putting in this thing? Its farrken old school as you can imagine, but could I put any immobilising system in it?

I'm keen to pay cash to get it done right, but if I can find a cheap but effective alternative I'm all ears.

Would an installer give me a good deal? Or am I better off buying one from reTardMe and getting someone to install it?

I currently use a steering wheel lock, but somehow I think that would be more a challenge than deterent when there is lots of gold inside

Ideas? :D

i've got an 87 corolla that i gotta secure up before i install stereo into.

The first thing i did was install central locking myself, got it from jaycar, then i'm just gonna get a alarm with remote locking installed pro instead of trademe, chuck a solex lock on the boot as its a wagon and get a panel beater to remove the locks of the front.

That way keep all the handles on remove the locks and just use remote, solex on the boot lock as you cant screwdriver that one off and it can be used if remote is locked or battery runs out.

only other things really is stealth speakers/amp/sub combo. hide your headunit. Dont advertise your sub when you drive around or it deserves to be stolen. otherwise any other ideas would be good to

You can put an immobiliser on any car you like - although those are also good suggestions listed above. Biggest things are stealth install and not driving around the neighbourhood crankin out 145 db for everyone to hear!

cool man, cheers for that

Ive already had a car taken from my carport before, and i didnt exactly 'advertise' that, id only been in AK for 2 months, so I just want it secure as possible

taking the locks out sounds like a wicked idea actually - never thought of it - how much would that cost ?
And a 'solex' lock? Is that one of those flash type of locks that takes a special key?

cheers

best thing to do is leave the locks there that way the idiots are gonna waste another minute wondering why the lock is turning and the doors arn't opening if ur boot is sealed off make some kind of access point where u can jump the battery with the bonnet closed.

They come with no instructions so i got them off the net, not to bad to install worth if someone can help you as the majority of it is easy just took a lil to figure what the hell was going on. Give it a go you'll learn something. As for keeping locks it will give an extra minute for them but that minute will cost you a few hundred when they ruin your doorlocks and doors, bad move.

it's not gonna do alot of damage when they're trying to pull out ur locks and once they've been screwed wat the hell go ahead and have them fully removed..... most of the time they dont try and pull the whole lock out, they go straight for a window and snatch and grab...

Exactally, I disconected the locks on my girl freinds car, since then people have tried to break in 3 times.
They couldn't open the door but the locks are now completly smashed and the door panel is bent. Not fun. (plus there is nothing in the car worth sealing.

Yeah thats crap :x My other car has a blue LED flashing light in it when the alarm is armed, and a few weeks ago the car next to mine (we share a carport) with no LED light but a wheel lock got broken into and had things stolen. His windows arent tinted, mine are.
I'm guessing they saw the LED in my car and thought 'na this other ones easier' - its the dummy factor remember, thieves are lazy. If they can see something they like, they'll smash n grab.

Very hard to see, but for the record no handles and locks on the door looks kinda cool.Image

Just check the legalitys as we havnt yet got around to it on my missus car and word is you cant do that, Locks alone would be ok, Ive posted this Just incase you were considering the look of removing both.
