Blown Channels...??

Postby hoolio » Tue Aug 29, 2006 11:41 am

Ive just installed a Sony MDXC6500X, (50W x 4) everything appears to be hooked up as it should, I have power to the unit & it functions as it should on Radio & MD.....BUT no volume at all on any mode, nada.

I suspect the channels may be F@#@$d, it is a second hand unit that was sold to me & as I understood from the sale its a fully functioning unit.
If the channels were gone, surely not all of them?!?!

If the polarity of the speakers was not observed when they were hooked up would this cause the head unit to go to any fail safe mode... & therefore get no volume...?

Any input welcomed......

Speaker polarity incorrectly wired only inverts the audio wave 180 degrees and therefore puts it out of phase - it has no detrimental electrical effects. No sound = problem ;) Make sure there isnt an option on the headunit to disable the onboard amps, as some HU's have that option.

Haha yeah when I initially wired my subs, I wired one of them out of phase.... (late night etc pushing deadline to have it ready for SI Champs) and wondered why the hell they were moving so much, but I could hear nothing.
