speakers running bakwards

Postby 79rolla » Fri Nov 23, 2007 10:06 am

hey just need a bit of proof or other opinions...
my brother (who is a knowit all) recons that if you have 2 speakers and one is running backwards the sound "cancles out" or some bull because the shock waves are diferent or somthing.. recons that a speaker running backwards will suck the bass out of the air or some bull shit

plese help me pumil him into the ground and stop pretending to know everything even tho he has no clue... or if you must you can prove him right...

sounds like you are talking about speakers being in phase and out of phase.

this is done by having the speaker wire connected backwards on one of the speakers.

It will be quieter when 2 speakers are out of phase.

He's kind of right, but it's not really that simple....

Do some reading on phase cancellation and constructive and destructive interference

I think he is talking about to equal sound waves cancelling each other out, ie if you face 2 speakers towards each other and they play exactly the same sound = silence

The problem with speakers out of phase is not only they play quieter, but also different frequencies are cancelled differently, which makes it sound really odd.

2 equal speakers out of phase with each other will cancel mainly the bass frequencies and can sound a bit distorted.
You're just jealous the voices are talking to me!
