Getting H/U Repaired?

Postby ee904age » Tue Jul 14, 2009 8:56 pm

Last weekend while out at a mx meeting a can of V spontaniously burst in my ute. It was a fine split in the side af the can that was sitting on the seat. The high pressure fine jet of sugary goodness fired straight into th CD slot in my head unit!

Its a Pioneer DEH3750MP by the way. On the way home it wouldnt work until a couple of days later as I was driving along it just came back to life and worked as new. The other day it was up quite loud and went to turn it down and no controls would work, even taking off the faceplate wouldn't stop it, but that has since come right.

I noticed today, that it has started distorting quite bad at higher volume.

Is it worth getting checked out? If so where should I take it? Just your average auto sparky or???

P.S I have opened up the faceplate and given it a spraydown with contact cleaner to try get it going the day after it got wet, that didnt help.

Sorry for the novel!

Because it's an entry level headdy, by the time you pay for repair it would probably be cheaper and easier to just get a new one.

:? Thats a bit of a worry.

Id contact Monaco, they are the Pioneer importers and do all the repairs etc, see what they reccomend :)

Contact cleaner doesn't remove sugar, if you really want to know.......by the time you've paid the repair person and all the middle men, you'd be better to get a new one.
But if you pull it out, then pull apart the faceplate, wash it with hot water , leave it out to dry maybe give it another wash with meths..... it's got a good chance of working.
But then again it could be toast.....disconnecting it at the time would have been a good idea.
