Speaker Box Carpet

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:30 pm

I'm after some speaker box carpet or similar, to apply to some hardboard so I can line my boot, needs to be black.

Is there anything like this which is self-adhesive and you just peel the backing off and stick it on?? Doesn't seem to be much on TM, are there any other businesses / sponsors people can recommend?

Cheers

its more a foam than a backed carpet, and doesn't come pre-backed (the whole point of it is you can pull/stretch it around corners

usually you buy the stuff in rolls /lengths (I know fusion used to do some at an inflated price), you need to use F2 / a contact adhesive on both the fabric/foam stuff and the box.

try car upholsters or failing that fusion sellers aka repco.

jaycar, surplustronics or any car audio shop will have carpet. I use bostik spray adhesive to adhere carpet to the boxes I build. I have used Ados F2 in the past as well. Just make sure you let the solvent evaporate for a while before you stick carpet to the box. ie wait till tacky and then attach.

here is a link on how to carpet the box from elemental designs. Make sure you have a good sharp blade for cutting the carpet.

have to watch the seams. Takes a little practice and is dependant on the carpet. Previously I used a product called Flex2 from Autex carpets. Seams were harder to make invisible due to it being thicker and more plush.

With standard carpet, it shouldn't be an issue, but make sure that the knife is sharp otherwise there you can't cut all the way through the carpet and keep a clean edge.
