5 Star Alarms: Siren Muppetry!

Postby Obsessive » Mon Jul 04, 2011 11:04 pm

I've been having a laugh about what's been going down on my blog today. Mongoose NZ don't seem to happy about this post: http://vehiclesecurity.co.nz/blog/5-star-muppetry

Am I the only one who thinks that a battery back-up siren which needs to be accessible for an over-ride key is a complete waste of time?

Wait.... so perforated condoms are not good? :x

You bring up a valid point though! Hopefully all of your efforts will result in better standards..... we can hope right?

A nun once told me the old leather ones were OK if soaked in Bats Milk! LOL

I think I'll have to get everyone to write to the NZSA and make it clear that I'm not the only one who thinks there need to be changes made :)
I'll post the address at some point and hit all the forums at once!

The idea of a complaint box being added to the NZSA website was suggested. Problem is I can't see them adding one any time soon!

What you really need to do is get everyone to stop paying their membership, since that's all the NZSA gives a shit about.

Good point,

Membership fees are due on the 1st April.

If the NZSA does not start to take the issue seriously but that time then I'll be sending out a mass email to all members (I have the email list)

Can you make your own standard? I know it wouldn't be a simple task.... but could solve the problem in a different way. Which standard would insurance companies demand an alarm meets?

a)Average one
b)Better one

Not saying which is which or anything like that as we know how easy it is to upset people if you tell the truth sometimes..

how about promotion of wider adoption of the Thatcham standards instead of the AS/NZS standard. Would mean people are working to a higher standard without you having to create from scratch and putting a lot of work into re-creating the wheel.

If you were to send out a mass email, then highlighting deficencies in the current standards, lack of updates and your own business working to the higher Thatcham standard would look more professional. Making recommendations rather than having a bitch whine is more constructive.

I think Warlocks did just that and got taken to court by the NZSA over the matter. He failed to pay his Lawyer and got put into liquidation :!:

What would be an ideal situation if it the NZSA took on Thatcham standards. The main thing that is preventing this right now is that Mongoose, AVS, Uniden etc would try to stop such a thing from happening.

Please understand that I have been trying to get the NZSA to improve privately for over 3 years now, so forgive me if I have a "bitch whine".

This is my attempt to be constructive.

Whilst the NZSA is not great right now I'm still willing to work with them to improve things. This all depends on how much influence they allow Mongoose etc to have upon the organisation! Hopefully now I've raised more awareness then this will force the hand.

i'm not saying your specifically having a whine. the usual highlighting of these issues on forums leads people to jump on bandwagons in support of causes and "bitch and whine" like they understand the situation as well as you do. Momentum builds and then falls sharply when they have said their piece. There will be a lack of continual support to carry you through.

I've been there and done that. I know the ingrained and closed car industries that want nothing more than a younger person with fresh ideas to actually question what they say and how they operate. Unfortunately, until they either quit the industry or hand over to someone with the decency to do something about it, then you're pretty much left with naught.

Just do what you are doing for now, working in line with the Thatcham standards and educating people as you go. Slow process, but look at it this way. I know of you from word of mouth and will contact you in regards to some work that (hopefully) will be coming up this year. Because you are do a good job, know your stuff and have made a lasting impression on people. It counts for something :)

That's all cool. You make some very good points, I know damn well things won't change over night but at least I know I'm trying to make a difference.

Thanks
