SONY CDX-2250 E-04 error ?

Postby jondee86 » Wed Aug 13, 2014 9:40 pm

Some years ago I bought a used CDX-2250 but never got round to installing
it in a car. And now that I have hooked it up to bench test a few amplifiers
that I have lying around, the CD player doesn't, and I get the E-04 error.

When I first powered the unit up, it made some ugly noises, and eventually
I got it to puke up a CD that was inside. Now that kind of tells me that the
thing wasn't working too good when it was sold to me, and no amount of
re-setting can get it to read a CD.

So the question is... do I lob what appears to be quite a tidy old CD player
into the bin, or is it worth trying to get it repaired ? The display seems to
work OK, but I haven't got an aerial handy for checking to see if the radio
works. Any suggestions :D

For what headunits are worth these days, it's not economical to fix em. I don't think they even get stolen much now!

2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Yeah,

We used to get them repaired all the time,
but now it is usually cheaper to just chuck it in the bin.

You can get a CD player head unit for around $100,
and it's usually more than $100 to get anything looked at.

Pretty much what I thought. I have a few more second hand
head units to try out, so I'll bin the CDX and move on. Next one
is an old Alpine 3DA-7987E with the triple disc cassette and
three pre-outs :)

As it happens I found two of the Alpine units. One has the classic
"won't load the disc" problem, but the other one actually works...
and I found two more CD's in the cassette :D So that will do for
testing, but I'll bin the lot when I'm done... unless someone on TM
wants them for a dollar.

The amps I'm checking are old school JBL USA units, and
for the moment I am running in a pair of DDW6.5's that have
also sat in the box for a while. Quite like the sound of these
speakers, so I will most likely use them for rears with a 10inch
sub. Got a GTQ400 for the fronts and rears and a GTS150 for
the sub... should be able to hear it above the ITB's :D
