Well seeing as how I am a mechanics daughter I just cant help myself when it comes to bits under the hood. :D

I have a decent amount of tools, but if it is something real major or I just dont have the time I usually get someone else to do it for me (someone else being the old man or a good friend of mine). 8)

Hey i do know what i'm doing, only sometimes by fixing one thing you uncover something else and it only happens on old cars! Me and a mate of mine did an engine transplant on my old laser, only to another laser motor but hey it still worked! I've changed numerous shocks and springs on all my cars. Made an adaptor plate to put a webber twin throat down draft on my old sky line, helped change clutches. Take gearboxes out and put them back in etc etc! Can change brakes easy as, have swapped a piston/conrod and bore out of my old motorbike when the original one was seized due to a failed oil seal. On my current car i have made my own intake, designed exhaust but got someone else to weld it for me cos i lost access to the mig i was using before that! Changed springs, sway bar bushes, put my own breathers etc on and oil catch can that i haven't seen anyone else do yet! And so far as i know my car is the quickest ae101 road car without cams/turbo aournd these parts! Big claim i know but so far i haven't been touched by any others :)

Meh you put the terminals on it's the one thing i left you to do :P yeah we were pretty even down there but my coby's louvered backwards and it has a big plug type thing in the middle that all the gasses have to go around - this effectively make my exhaust at that point about 1 inch big :( But when it comes out it's a completely different animal!
PS even with your zaust intake etc you won't keep up cos well um it's only a levin son :P

I do oil changes, brake replacements, and all the easy stuff.
If I need any other work done, I take it to my dad's workshop and get one of his mechanics to do it :D

learnt alot from my m8 s stockcar
got the oportunity to build lotus 7 chasis
good to learn what you can do and cant with regards to certification
but yeah, the best way to know your car is to do as much as you can with the right tools ,yourself or with a mate
even better still build it from scratch and learn even more.
current project-scatch built lotus 7,4age bluetop

The basic stuff, like changing oil, filters, spark plugs, general maintanance, radiator flush, cleaning my engine bay, is all done by myself. This also includes, brake pad changes etc

But the more heavy duty stuff is done by a friend of mine, things such as clutch change, electrial stuff on the car, external waste gate, front mount, adjustable suspension was all put in by a mate of mine. Including BOV, exhaust and all this was done at mates rates too!

I prefer to do as much as I can by myself but that at the moment is pretty much restricted to the basics. Anything I can't do I get my brother to look at, or a friend of the family who's a mechanic, basically, if I can, I'll avoid garages because a) I'd rather learn it myself, and b) it costs heaps less!

I'll have a crack anything, I've got access to most tools, and own a fair few myself.
I've done lots of things, the only thing I haven't done is rebuild a rotary.

I do pretty much all the work myself as long as I have the right tools and skills for the particular job. Saves a lot of money and you are always learning, still spending $$$ on tools lol.

Ive got a deal going with my Dad(Toyota mechanic and parts manager of 30yrs experience)
I pay for parts and he does the labour for free!(I help when/where I can)
The only thing we dont do is panel and paint!
So it all works out pretty well

I have zero mechanical aptitude so I pay a fully qualified person to do everything to my GSR.

The same person has done the servicing/maintenance since I bought the car, nearly 4 years ago.

All in one weekend, with minimal tools, and **NO** pit or anything to lift the engine out.

So the way to do it, is simply lift up the front, only takes two ppl:)

so thats about as much work as we get up to, strange thing is, we take our cars to the garage for a oil change/tune up, yet we put the engine in there in the first place! madness!

Just last weekend, we took, swapped the front assembly, engine, drive line and exaust over, hows that for a mish!
