What should i choose as a career?

Postby MrOizo » Thu Feb 13, 2003 12:43 am

O.K. - i have got to this point in my life where i have to think seriously about what i wanna be doing for the rest of my life.

I have alot of interests including mechanics, physics, computers.

I started the Diploma in Aviation in 2001 but due to Asthma (which apparently the medical is more leaneant) and i wasnt able to fly, but completed the theory part of the Private Pilots Licence. Also i was enrolled in AUT for Mechanical Engineering in 2000 but withdrew myself due to some personal reasons... now i have these 2 options as well as something in the IT industry. Since i am on a computer all day, i have a pretty basic understanding of computers... (Hardware and Software)

Currently i am worlkign for my father doing basic computer shit at the moment, including maintaining as much as i can a 7 computer network, and editing as my main part which in the years 2001-2003 was streaming media.

i am like everyone else i guess.. i wanna do somethign i like and get paid good money for it....

i have belw a few options... choose one...

btw... this is kinda serious so would appreciate smart a$s comments to be kept to yourself :)

IMHO to do IT as a career you need to have a passion for it, the money is pretty crap for a while, and unless you love what you're doing, the work will be really unenjoyable.

There are heaps of people in my classes at tech who are there for the money, or because they like dicking around in powerpoint. If you cant name 4 current motherboard chipsets off the top of your head then personally i dont think you can ever be a truly good tech.

just my 0.02 anyway...

personalyl id finsih the avaiation license. then after taht look around. Id do this becuas ei dont like loose strings hanging about, but then again if ur getting idustry experience being the tech support for a computer network, then u may be interested in networking, i did a certificate level 4 : netowkr admin, and even though it was relaly in depth and i hated it..heh..got a credit average...but like..found it wasnt for me, i totally agree.with IT u have to love it..or ur wasting ur time.

Be a Pilot.

You get to wear a sexy uniform, earn phuckloads of molaah, get to meet hot air hostesses, fly jumbo jets and it sounds REALLY cool.

MrOizo "Hey baby, I'm a commercial pilot"

Sexy Girl "Really? Wanna come home with me?"

SEE?

But seribisly, i work at an engineering shop and the conditions you have to work in and the boring stuff you do, well its not my cup of tea, but it might be yours.... but theres more perks as a pilot  Like a lounge in the airport and stuff....

I'm going to Broadcasting School in Christchurch next year coz I'm gonna be on the radio!!! It only took me 18 years to figure it out...

WATCH OUT CHRISTCHURCH!!!

hmm, i got 3 family members who are pilots. The money aint really that great anymore. As with IT you kinda need a passion for flying. Another guy I kno from work was a 747 pilot, but he gave it up cos he got bored with it. Remember also, that to get a job as a pilot u need a minimum amount of hours flying + a few different licenses (MEIR etc), which all adds up to a hugh cost. So unless u dead set on it, or have lotsa money + time, maybe u should consider something else first.

Just my thoughts

Flying will be expensive...

IT will be hard to get into and get *big* with.. speaking as an IT worker :P
Sanchez - Im a pretty damn reasonable technician and I cant recite mobo chipsets... who cares? Google is your friend :P

In the end it'll come down to where does your passion lie, what really makes you want to go to work in the morning???

hmm..

thanks for that...

well another thing i have considered is something automotive... but we'll see...

as far as aviation goes... i have wanted to do it for as long as i can rememebr, even though i failed my class 1 medical i still should have finished the theory to the commercial and could have gone into somrthing aviation related.

ok thinking thinking...

Naa man - you wouldn't have the aw11 - you'd have to buy a real pimp car like a dumped out 1jz powered something - or maybe a subaru forester...they look pretty pimp like when they're dumped

failing that the 97 5L v8 merc's are pretty phat
