I'm with Jebus on this one. Looks definitely come first, everything can be made up to scratch, performance, suspension etc. but if its an ugly car, you screwed.
Dig a hole for the next man and you'll fall in.

I have a fundamental disagreement.

A car should be chosen on function first.
If your requirement is just 'get me from A to B' then you look at other things second - like getting there in style :P

I had to go for function first. I needed 4 doors, a usable boot. I wanted 4WD versatility. I wanted to retain a little bit of horsepower and have the ability to tow things as required - not heavy things, garden-trailer level stuff and the like.

Then came cost. Couldnt spend more than 10k.

Then came personal preferences. If I wanted a 'usable' boot I might as well go Station Wagon - most Sedans didn't seem very practical.
In the face of all of the above (4 doors, boot, 4wd, performance engine) and in order to stay with Toyota, the logical conclusion became the TZ-G Caldina.

Had I had a bit more money i'td have been the GTT. ;-)

For the record I took a Hilux Surf for a test drive too. The jump from GT-4 was too big, though. Sluggish beast...

Im both. Thats why ive always gone back to the basic Lancer GSR shell no matter what ive owned.
I've always been in love with the 96 shape - in my opinion it has everything going for it and is easy to make look even better with the right mags, lowering it and getting the exhaust sticking out the back. ALso the interior is a major bonus.

And then it has the power to boot. Its not the fastest thing on the road but really how fast can you go. Its got good boost down low to mid revs, 4wd makes for excellent handling, just a really good setup. As much as i love the evos, i love the GSR more as with the right tricks you can keep up to a lot of them plus they blend in more with the crowd so you dont stand out to the po po.

But then i would be biased - im on to my 2nd one...
Drinking 42 BELOW Passionfruit Vodka is like walking along the street and seeing this really hot girl and all you can think is "Man, I don't understand how anyone can be gay".

Me i got my car cause she drove beautifully and to me she has style.

There has to be decent looks to it the guts of a car can always be ripped out and replaced/modified.

Performance, there are lot of awesome cars though so for me it came down to cost of spares and mods, avalability of those bits and ofcourse looks. I got a good deal on my mitsi too so that helped.

But having a absalute sleeper would be cool, my mates building up a stock as ae92 levin, steelies and all. (1998). It would be f'n cool to drive especially when people think its "just a levin"
