If it wasn't VTEC, it would be even, maybe even skyline for the win.. I've driven both, anything RB-powered doesn't feel fast, as they have such a smooth torque delivery, but they're actually quite quick, and easy to launch with the auto. The Prelude on the other hand, yeah they're 200hp, but the gearing is so long, and the car is so heavy, they're hard to launch properly, and really need to be punished to keep them in the meat of the torque band.
What was said before, about quoting figures, isn't real world racing. I'm sure with any car, you could make it look fast on paper, but there are so many variables with racing.. gearing, etc.. its' almost down to luck on the day.
With that said, over a 1/4 mile situation, I'd put the Skyline with the win. Those RB25 NEO motors are quite punchy, with huge topend, whereas the H22A, with its' long gearing, starts to run out of breath quickly. Maybe with perfect shifting, the prelude would keep up, but if it wasn't VTEC, the R34 would pull away.
On a side note, if those Preludes are so fast, then why do most still only do 15 - 16 sec 1/4 miles?
