I change up to 5th gear as soon as possible - I find that the Sentra is more than capable of keeping up with city traffic flows in 50km/h zones without having to use the throttle much. I really get frustrated when I drive cars with smaller motors where I need to keep changing down for hills. Fuel-wise I usually get around 8l/100km for my daily commute (mix of 50km/h and 70km/h, luckily no motorway carparks to contend with

) while the best I've managed was 7.1/100km on an open road trip during Targa a few years back. (Worst was around 18l/100km during one memorable trip up the west side of Lake Taupo, but it was worth it!)
Is it a sign of the times (and petrol prices) that members of an enthusiasts club are taking an active interest in more than just the looks and performance of their cars?

We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976
