Take The Money and Run?

Postby ee904age » Thu May 21, 2009 7:01 pm

If your bank accidently transferred $10,000,000 into your account, would you take it and run or do the honest thing and return it?

Personally, I would hide it for as long as possible, claiming the interest, then return it when they caught up with me.

I'd give it back, but only because i'm too lazy / too much effort to give up current life till they find you  Surely with passports etc they can trace anyone. Unless they swam with cases of cash

Would hope for a bonus though for the honesty

Heard someone say that on the rock this morning. I'd honestly just own up straight away hoping for some sort of good reward :D

I'd give it back, it's not like you'd get away with it for too long before someone realises who you are, and you end up having to pay it back. Oh and i'd get a receipt, enlarge it laminate it and put it on the wall for s^@@@s and giggles

How the hell would they get the money though.

Like what, stroll up to a teller and say "Hey, I'd like to withdraw $10,000,000 please. In $20 notes".

If they transfered it to an off shore bank acc, the bank could pretty much reverse it, and chances are they wouldn't let them transfer that much anyway. Most places have a daily limit.

Sure, the money may be in your account, but when you try and withdraw it somehow, the bank is gonna stop and say "Waaaait a minute...."

I'd donate it to a heap of charities. Cause then I wouldn't benefit personally from it so they couldn't claim it back legally.

And the bank wouldn't want to claim it back from the charities for fear of a backlash.

Otherwise I'd run to a south american country and hideout with the money there.

I'm pretty sure there'd be some countries that wouldn't bat an eyelid if you transferred 10 mill into an account in their country and then withdrew it, or do it to multiple accounts, make it hard to trace. $10 mil would be chump change in some countries, especially since its only $10 mil NZ, so about $5 mil US

I'd send an email to someone overseas, telling them of mine and theirs good fortune, and if they can send me an account number I'll deposit the money overnight, minus some fees of course.
This is the perfect plan and cannot fail.

If they're in China, then Westpac are pretty much screwed.
Their government will just say "Not our problem, we don't care".
