Manuals all good, but just too annoying for everyday driving

Auto is only good for the tow car (to tow the manual to and from the strip) or when you cant change gears quick enough (how many ppl own a car that fast?)

Manual all the way, good old H pattern 8)

Autos are great, they are no slower than a manual while driving, if not faster than a manual.

alot more comfortable and gives you a free hand to eat / txt, whatever

Automatics for around town. I've just spent too many hours stuck crawling at 5km/h in stop-start Auckland traffic... a clutch is just a pain in the ass in those situations.

For real driving it is a manual every time. I like a gearbox to do what I want, when I want it to. I've tried a couple of tiptronics and they just don't respond quickly enough and when they do they tend to unbalance the car (eg: when changing down coming into a corner I heel-and-toe, which smooths the downchange; the tiptronic changing down just makes the car feel like it's about to do a compression lock-up :? )

Of course, in an ideal world I'd have one of those sequential jobbies that the exotics use - the ability to dispense with the clutch whilst still being in control of the gear selection (and software smart enough to match engine revs on changes) sounds ideal :D
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

Re free hand for txting - I should bloody hope not :|

I drive an Auto, first one i've owned - I dont look down on em as much as I used to. Excellent for rush hour traffic, etc. Not as good an aid to car handling, admittedly, but you can still do lil things to help your situ out (disengaging the Overdrive is as good as dropping a gear).

I leave the power mode off except for when i'm towing, or doing highway (not motorway) Driving. It helps when trying to gain momentum for overtaking or when driving on twisty roads. (Got to give Scenic Drive a bit of a run this morning, the Caldy suprised me... although I was probably coming close to the practical handling edge on some of those corners, yay for ABS)..

So er um yeah, I didnt vote coz I dont leave the power switch on all the time :P But my own car is an 3speed + OD Auto, which is fine. The work cars are manuals, though..
