Burning questions of the day answered by the Toyspeed populace

Do you approve of the NZ police having Tasers?

Yes. The Police are responsible enough to decide when to use them.

It all comes down to do we trust the police? And no, I don't.
Sad thing that.

I'm scared, I would never hurt anyone or put anyone in danger, but I'm still scared I'll get tazored for being drunk and disorderly or something. I see the benifits, but I see the risk too.. It tough..

I guess for the likes of the guy they shot for smashing windows with a baseball bat up north it would have helped, but you still have to be at arms reach..
What about stun guns? Do they even exist?
And the whole, if they shoot, they have to shoot to kill thing is kinda lame.
I know it's because they should only be shooting if there's a life in danger, but wouldn't some more training to be able to shoot in the leg be good, if it's just some angry guy with a stick?

Try wearing the other parties shoes. Id rather be tazed than shot.

If a big (insert angry miniroity here) was comming at me, id taze the sh*t out of them, and then some. Maybe they would think twicel. Maybe they wouldn't, which would give me an excuse to taze them again, and again, and again.

Im all for it. Id want to have a solid means of defending myself, the fact its non-lethal is a bonus (curse?).

True that the amount of violence is getting worse over here so hell if I was a plod I'd want something more then a night stick to wave at some angry pr*ck coming for me..

The New Zealand Taser is 5 Watts, compared to 26 Watts for the US model.

Plus the NZ Tasers are only going to be trialed for a year from the second half of this year to see how effective they are AND theyre only going to be used in the North Shore/Waitakere, Auckland City, Counties Manukau and Wellington (including Wairarapa) districts.

Police News magazine that the guns had a range of 7.6m but during training officers would be encouraged to get as close as possible to avoid hitting eyes or genitals.

Stuff having your balls tasered.

And its a good and a bad idea, it should be a last resort for personal defence only, not an offencive weapon.

- Yeah they're the Pistol-shaped tasers with the barbed conductors that penetrate the skin and carry the voltage over wires. As for sterility, I'd be a little scaredc myself. Hopefully they'll have to disinfect every time otherwise someone may get AIDs! 8O

The bits that fire out are one time use, you load it onto the end of the gun and the gun just triggeres it and supplies the volts.

You cant re use them.

A friend told me a good trick. If a cop goes to tazor you, just grab him/her so they're the ground, you'll get a small shock, but they'll get the big kick :D

Wouldn't really work like that, thats why there are 2 prongs on the tazer the current flows between them, it not like an electric fence.

I'd like to belive it Alex, but having been at a courtcase with a cop and watching the bastard lie outright, and having seen other instances of cops behaving like power-hungry wankers, I've lost a lot of respect.
So the majority are all good, and I have met some lovely officers, but it's the few bad eggs that I'm afraid of.

However, I'll live with that, for the greater good :P

And I ain't no punk! Heh, quite the opposite.
My school report cards may have often mentioned 'lack of attention', 'failure to do homework'. etc, but I always got 5/5 for well mannered and courteous :D

Its rather shocking that the Polices may be allowed these. Some cops will just use it to get their kicks.
