i'll take a stab in the dark that it won't be good value to replace the silver with a black if you are going to work it anyway. could always put a blacktop head on with map etc, wouldn't be anything in it really then. blacktop fly too

I haven't worked even a 4k tho, so yeah

slightly higher compression, slightly bigger ID throttles, i think slightly larger ID exhaust ports, lighter conrods. I think the difference is somethin like 10kw tops off the top of my head.

go different 20v with quad carbs lol i think i have an addiction to quad carbs lol :D

remember its way cheaper per KW to go turbo, but IMO hard tuned NA is far far far cooler.
When i get my 86 in a couple months, if i do anythin after wheels and springs (ill keep the stock stuff tho) ill buy another blue top and do a rangi turbo set up eg log minifold , diagnostics mode etc etc just for shits and giggles should only cost like $700 max, and when it blows up put the original motor back in.

i actually thought a 7age with a supercharger would be kinda cool, should have plenty of torque on tap in a small car like that

@ the silver vs blacktop argument.

Stock the blacktop is a much better engine. More power everywhere, and just smoother.
But with minor mods, ECU + intake + exhaust, there is pretty much no difference between them. I say just stick with what you got.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Don't blaspheme on the AE. A worked bluetop is where you want to be. Good power for the chassis and they do seriously sound fantastic with a burbling off beat idle.
You rotang that thing and I think half of toyspeed will come and kick your posterior. I'll fly up and bring the popcorn.

stalker wrote:One question, (and please dont flame me for the nub question  ) if I was to stick with the NA 4age, would it be worth looking at getting a "black top" and then doing the usuals, cams, port and polish, trumpets etc, then put it into the car?
Ie. is there that much difference in the silver top compared to the black top?

You'd need to rebuild it with silvertop conrods else they will give up.

Definitely a big difference stock for stock between silver and black but you are running a link ecu so maybe not so much to be gained. My gf's silvertop ae101 feels flat after 6000rpm, but mates ae111 pulls well at this point.

4agte can be setup to have a very smooth power delivery. My old 4agte with Ball Bearing T28 was so smooth it didn't even feel like a turbo lol but it had 150kw's at the wheels.

Depends what you want really.

But i'd say work with what you have.

To be honest, Snoozin has the best suggestion yet. Always wanted to put one in a Starlet

oh true lol, I didnt read that far down the stats page.
It is a good suggestion, but not sure if im keen on going back to a diesel engine as the RUC's just keep going up and up (like gas).

Dont worrie Redmist, id kick my own a$$ if I put a rotor in it. Nothing against them, just im not a fan of them thats all
:)

Im liking all these suggestions though, please, if you think of more, let me know

3Y it, jeep motor FTW.

There is a 255hp NA silvertop in existance, so anythings possible with what you got.

I think 7age with 20v head would be very cool.

Id keep what you have and spend the money you would spend on an engine conversion buying cams and stuff.

But if you were going to put something in there like a 3s, it would have to be 3sgte, or 1UZ that beast, if your going to go out, might as well go all out baby!

dont bother with the blacktop
spend ya $$ on the silvertop
biggest downside with the silvertop is the ecu.
stock tune is rubbish.

i would spend ya $$ on a link and a good tune.
if you can afford it get some head work done on the silvertop
then spend the rest of the $$ on good suspension etc.

well in that case if the suspension is up to scratch id invest that $$ in some headwork and cams.
