Found that eta products are made in china.
Can do tig/stick/mig welding and fabrication doesnt have to be car related.

I can't vote :x Where's the "No, but I will be now..." option?? Never even occurred to me either, but I'm definately with the theory that with the free trade deal, and more ( 8O ) Chinese goods coming into the country, things are gonna get mighty dodgy around here in some cases!! We really need to work for a self sustaining food market in New Zealand. It's very possible, but unfortunately the emphasis around New Zealand manufacture is on export, as that's where the best money can generally be found. If we were to buy New Zealand made goods - if there was even the option to buy only NZ goods, then the market would open up here, there would be better options for exporters to market locally, the product range of NZ products would open up, the employment rate would be far better, as would standards of products, due to local competition our products would be cheaper, and we'd all be better off...
However, it's cheaper in the short term to by from China, as they're all paid bollocks to make bollocks, so these long term ideals don't stand a shit show.
NB: Just started my degree - I may know substantially more in the years to come and be able to disprove everything I've just said

It's quite interesting at how many of you comment on how its never crossed your mind before really. Seems to be the answer a lot of people have said when I bring the topic up.

I myself never thought about it too much also, up until about 2 years ago when I became informed by one of my folks that Eta peanut butter was made in china, ever since then I've been quite suspect of a lot of other goods made over there and avoid them...

It just comes down to the fact, they make goods as cheaply as possible to turn a dollar so why would they put any extra effort into making food? To them its just another product...

No different to anywhere else, just such large volumes come through that more of them will have issues.

HAHA, each to their own I guess.

I certainly wouldn't want foods produced using harmful chinese made substandard cancer causing chemicals going in my body!

Some might be okay, but there are records of a lot not, so Id rather not take the risk at all.

sergei has a point, so much stuff in NZ is expensive "just because"

clothes are a perfect example, ie dickies - cheap as work clothes in the USA, trendy skater-wear here. mossimo, crappy chain store brand in teh states, "cool"* here.

*dont quote me, im about 10 years out of touch when it comes to clothes :P

i wonder how many people would say no to chinese made car parts if the alternative meant paying genuine prices for things like brake rotors...

I would definitely say NO to Chinese car parts full stop (no matter what).
It is one of the worst things they are manufacturing. This and tools.

Ahmen to that! That's one side of the Chinese manufacturing industry I would stay 1000 miles from, Japanese, European or American made car parts only thanks!

I mean why kid your self buying cheaper parts or tools, when they use substandard materials and they just are not made to last... Life is to be enjoyed with quality things which can be appreciated - Chinese stuff is totally the opposite - no passion or soul in pretty much anything.

I just hope in the years to come people will realise this and there will be an increase in local made goods from Western Countries etc. Who knows... I know I d pay the extra!

I think a lot of people are realising this.

I wouldnt buy food from china, if its imported by a reputable company such as ETA i feel a little better.

Food from some asian countries isn't that bad. Hong Kong and Japan make quality stuff.

It's pretty hard to stay away from chineese goods.

Buy a $20 shirt and it will be from china, buy a $250 shirt and it too usually is made in china "made from Italian fabric". Quality control seems to be a lot better, better materials and better stitching and a better fit. But maybe im just kidding my self because i spent so much money

Also got a tig welder that was made in china. Can't really fault it. Seems to be a good welder especially for the price (around $800 ). Had some mates use it who have good welders and they were quite impressed with it.

its funny how every one is getting pissy over where products are being made from and dont want to buy products from there cos there scared of it, its so simple DONT BY IT!!!! there not force feeding you the crap,
if everyone was so concerned about it then stop buying it and it will never be stocked on the selves again. tell your friends. tell your family. start a movement get it banned or at least un-profitable to stock.

BUT the fact of the matter is your the ones ensuring they are still in business!! the consumer is you and you have the power to decide weather a product survives or fails, in all honesty youd rather buy the cheaper product the save a $1. its simple human nature.
there have already been schemes to make kiwis buy local, but consumers (you) still tend to buy china made, not cos its the only thing available its because your self consciously programed to take the bait of a bargain. im in marketing and advertising by the way. we use predictable human nature as a selling tool all the time, dont you think its strange that all the main fast food chains use red as the primary colur!!

I dnt eat processed foods. All i eat is eggs meat n protein shakes, with veges n fruit. I get my powder direct from the manufacture and all meats from the butcher and fruit from the farms along hobsonville road....its the easiest way to go....but it is more expensive about $30-$40 a week more expensive
