Yeah, once you replace the chassis, the powerplant, drivetrain, body, electricals and interior, they're not so bad......

I'd rock an Allegro, it's always been a slightly retarded dream of mine to build a B18CR powered one.

for an everyday car it has to be new and reliable..
ie air con, power steer, and efi, but for a weekend car you got to go old school..

nothing worse that that old carbied car that is unwilling to start on a cold morning, and a heater that won't defrost the windscreen..

but in summer you can't beat the sound of the the old mini with a wild cam at 7000+rpm down some backroad then rocking up to the lights with lumpy idle and slight smell of petrol.

It certainly turns heads compared to a new mini...
oh yeah the starlet is old and cool too... probably more for it's slightly new school running gear than body shape though..

on the whole i'd probably go old school car with new car technoligy, maybe an old falcon with air con, and injection...
current cars:
Evo 4 230Kw atw
1971 mini.
79 bugeye 245kw atw.
Evo powered mx5 under construction

Older cars are cool, but have to be early 80's or older. then late 90's cars tickle my fancy

Oh hell we used to own an Austin Princess

I have only ever owned older cars - late 80's - to very early '90's. I like them now purely for nostalgic reasons and the fact that the performance from some of them - in particular the 4WD turbos was comparible, and in some cases better than their modern equivalents.

I only really like later model vehicles due ot the fact they are a bit more comfy and a bit more family friendly :)

My theory is if I want another car it has to be older than my last car i bought.

Down to 73' so far

96', 82', 80', 73'

This theory only applies if I have a reliable daily though, as none of the others need to work :?

Equivalent for equivalent across the board I'd have a newer car any day. There are is a bunch of older cars I really quite like, but if say someone for sake of arguement offered me a GA70 for $5,000 I'd tell them to p*ss off. If someone offered me a JZA80 for the same price, I'd have 2JZ no shxt right now.

I've recently been fortunate enough to find a car that has heated seats. So my vote had to go for new cars. :P

But to be fair, new cars have more efficient engines (more power for less fuel), better handling, better safety, better reliability, more space, more comfortable.

The only thing old cars have going for them is emotion. I'd love a 1969 Mustang. But I'd drive it standard for about a week before changing the suspension, engine, brakes, seats, steering wheel, sounds... You get the point. Not to make it a race car but to make it more accepting on the roads. Facts are facts old cars are hogs. Doesn't mean they can't be appealing though.

Even comparing the hallmarks of years gone by are beaten by the newer cars.

I'm more into old cars, not quite old school cars though. Pretty much say 77 ke corolla's, 35's ae86's, etc. But then again i like some 90's shape cars too. Just not too keen on the newer shaped cars like post 97

new cars are fine for a daily driver, but for the summer cruising I'd rather roll this 7 up anyday.

Modern for me, gotta love the creature comforts.

Came from a E46 325 to an JZS161 Aristo to now an Altezza, all have had heated/electric seats, power windows and mainly AC!

Don't think I could face owning a carby (apart from an AE86 perhaps, but the motor would be replaced anyway haha)

No you wouldn't. Do that and you take away any character of an old car, thats half the point of old stuff

I prefer mid 80's to early/mid 90's cars. When safety/emissions control/cost savings weren't too high up on the list of things to include in any new car.
