Petrol Surcharge for using credit cards to purchase petrol

Burning questions of the day answered by the Toyspeed populace

Moderator: The Mod Squad

Would you pay a surcharge for using a credit card to purchase petrol?

I check for surcharges and decline if there is one, go elsewhere

I pay for absolutely everything with my credit card - it actually makes a lot of sense. You're not charged interest on purchases for 60 days (as someone already mentioned), which means you can leave that money in another account, earning interest, then pay for all your purchases at the end of the period. Additionally, you don't pay any transaction fees (which can add up if you use an eftpos card 2-3 times a day), and can earn various reward points too.

everytime you lovely pple use your credit card it cost's the company that you are buying the goods off 3% of the total vaule

come august ( think its august or is it april mmm cant remember )we will be able to pass that sur-charge on to the customer

so the company doesnt lose out

you do

edit
mmmm i see they have changed it again.......... i must go find that eftpos letter regarding this matter........been meaning to re-read that

Rewards points broseph. Gunna pay for it anyway. May as well pay for it on credit card, pay it off on time, not charged interest, earn interest on money that is in savings in the meantime, and collect rewards points.

I already pay fee's for my credit card.

If a retailer doesn't want to wear the fee's for offering a guaranteed method of payment then why bother offering credit as an option?

Not a shot at you btw J, just debating

yip hahaha

here we go in summary letter from eftpos nz

visa and mastercard are required to amend their rules in NZ to allow merchants to impose a fee for credit card transactions - a practice known as surcharging ANZ, N-bank must also offer customers new murchant sercive fee pricing options from april 2010

oh and the rules that govern this are

effective immediatley efpos nz merchant customers can now APPLY A SURCHARGE TO ALL VISA AND MASTERCARD transactions, how ever there are some ruls which govern how surcharges can be applied which you need to be aware of and must adibe by

* a surcharge may be applied as a percentage fee or a flat dollar amount and must be disclosed to the card holder prior to the completion of the transaction, you must give the card holder the opportunity to cancel said transaction

* the surcharge must be processed as part of the total amount of a transaction and not collected separatly

* the surcharge must bear a reasonable relationship to your costs of acceoting visa and mcard for payments

rest is about bright signage and not being able to blame mcard and visa for the surcharge

leter was dated 18 november 09 and takes effect asap

woops hahaha

Hmm cause us lovely retailers who supply a price and a great service to you , generally always get beaten down in price , so we lose money to the customer then the bank takes it off us aswell its kinda of a double dip against us ,
and if we dont offer the credit , then the nice little customers wil walk away , we dont want you to walk away , but we also dont wana get double stung , so now simply we are offering the package but if you want it , u pay , its kinda simple really .
We get hit even worse when its amex , diners , q card or farmers , unfortunately gone are the days of everyone paying by cash , its all electronic and it all costs.
